Lenawee County Democratic Party COVID-19 Health Department School Mandate Resolution

WHEREAS, Michigan has a very high incident rate of COVID-19 cases;

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has elevated Michigan's risk for community spread of COVID-19 to substantial;

WHEREAS, the number of hospitalizations related to COVID-19 is on the rise;

WHEREAS, COVID-19, long term morbidity issues among children are unknown;

WHEREAS, local school authorities have failed to fully implement recommendations by CDC, AMA, AAFP, APA to protect student health;

WHEREAS, the science and expert opinion is in universal agreement that masking is necessary to protect both the public health and individual health from COVID-19 infection;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lenawee County Democratic Party demands that the Lenawee County Health Department do its sworn duty, adhering to the science, and mandate mask usage and all other currently recommended risk mitigation strategies in local school districts per the recommendations of and in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the CDC and the MDHHS so that Lenawee County may slow the spread, reduce morbidity and mortality related to COVID-19, and keep schools open for in-person instruction.
